Essay FHE Inc. is a manufacturer of pumps and related fluid-handling equipment that supplies products used to transfer all types of liquids from paint to food products and pumps to various industries such as automobiles and appliances. FHE Inc. is a multimillion dollar company that is experiencing improved sales and profits over the last five years through aggressive new product introductions. Phil Thomas, VP for Corporate Development and Marketing is in charge of both Marketing and Engineering. FHE chose to do this in order to facilitate cooperation between Marketing and Engineering, particularly with new product introductions. With the marketing and engineering departments so integrated, many times it is difficult to tell which department is in charge of certain responsibilities and who is to blame when problems arise. Problem Statement Lum Donaldson, the Product Development Engineering Manager for FHE, Inc. is convinced that there is a need to improve the procedures, organization, and project control systems to make new product introductions go smoothly. He continually encounters problem in coordinating the technical program managers and the product managers. He is also concerned about the fluctuating workload in the engineering services department. While the Engineering Service and Administration Manager has requested several times for more advanced notice for these new projects the response given was that there are many uncertainties in the project schedules and many requirements are often unknown until the very last minute. : Another issue is that the manufacturing department seems to be excluded during the design stage of new products and suddenly has a product design trusted upon them with little knowledge about the design yet high expectations for their work. Because of these issues, there are many problems that arise during manufacturing and sometimes products must be recalled. Key Considerations 1. What could be done to clarify the organizational relationship among product managers, technical program managers, and manufacturing managers? Revise the current primary tasks performed by each department and set specific goals to ensure that all issues are being pinpointed, addressed and remedied. Management needs to ensure that there is no ambiguity about which department is responsible for each task. Have each department involved during each stage of the new product development. Each department doesn’t need to have the same effort and time during each stage but to have each department involved co ncurrently. Bring the Materials Manager on board to the Design Team so that during the Design Stage, potential manufacturing problems can be addressed and prevented with the help of a member with manufacturing knowledge. This will reduce the number of problems that have risen in past manufacturing stages and product recalls that have occurred. 2. What can be done to better manage the work load of the engineering services department? Create specific schedule for future new product projects and have a regular forecast of engineering services needed for the next year. This will help to stagger the services needed from the engineers and avoid bottleneck situations within the engineering department. FHE should also have the engineering services department participate during the marketing stage where the company needs to evaluate the customers’ needs and translate it into customer specifications using the concurrent process approach in new product development. 3. Evaluate the plans and the expected results from the new CAD-CAM system. Pros of CAD-CAM System: 1) Rapid Prototyping ) new products can be tested using software simulation without making it into a prototype b)New products cycle would be faster using CAD-CAM process 2) Ease of Communication a) Problems and issues can be addressed immediately between departments before specifications are relayed into the engineering department and sent to the manufacturing process 3) Improved Quality Products are accurate based on what was designed by the engineering and sent to the manufacturing depar tment Cons of CAD-CAM System 1) Garbage in – Garbage out If design problems are not addressed initially in the engineering department, problems will be carried on unto the manufacturing department 2) High Investment Costs A single user license of the Autodesk Inventor Software can cost up to $4,999 per license not to include the training costs incurred during the implementation of the new software. 3) Implementation Issues Some of the personnel are technologically challenged and cannot understand the use of the new technology for the new development process Purchase and implement new CAD-CAM system. With the new system, all three departments will be electronically coordinated, communication will become easier and more efficient and errors encountered in the past between engineering and manufacturing will be eliminated. This computerized system will also create a more speedy and efficient new product introduction cycle for FHE and eliminate many of the production problems it had been experiencing. 4. What steps should Donaldson take to improve the new product development process at FHE? Decrease the ambiguity of primary responsibilities delegated to each department by clearly outlining tasks and specific goals, increase the utilization of manufacturing department input by involving the Materials Manager in product design stage, create specific schedule for future projects and engineering services needed in the next year, and implement new CAD-CAM system as a way of coordinating the three departments. Analysis FHE has problems of coordination among product managers, technical program managers, and marketing managers. There is no clearly defined requirements necessary for each phase of project development so that the engineering services department is able to produce results in a more efficient manner. Communication between manufacturing and product design managers needs improvement. Currently the product design department admits that once a product is developed it is typically â€Å"thrown over the wall to manufacturing†, because of this lack of communication. Product quality often suffers and problems arise after products are introduced to the m Conclusion The problems that have risen in these areas are due to lack of clarity in department tasks and responsibilities, the over-integration of two departments (marketing and engineering) and the exclusion of input from the other. Plastic can cause intestinal blockage, plus it releases toxic compounds that damage tissues, thin eggshells, or alter turtle behavior. Habitat destruction from human encroachment deprives turtles of nesting sites. Artificial lighting confuses hatchlings, interfering with their ability to find water. People who find hatchlings may be tempted to help them get to water, but this interference actually lowers their chance of survival, as it prevents them from building the strength needed to swim. Climate change is another cause for concern. Because temperature determines hatchling sex, rising temperatures may skew gender ratio in favor of females. It is a very powerful theme; it makes the play both interesting and memorable. There is an evil presence throughout the play; this is evident from the very first scene where we encounter the three witches. Fundamentally, there are two types of evil visible in Shakespeare’s play of Macbeth. The evil which we see, the violent acts, the violent imagery, then there is a sense of evil within the characters themselves, and the three witches, as they are considered evil beings. All of these elements combine to establish an overall atmosphere of evil. Evil characters like Lady Macbeth I think the strongest vision of evil in this play is demonstrated by the witches. The witches themselves are a symbol of evil, never mind their actual doings. They are supernatural and automatically feared. They like to play cruel tricks, mislead people. Their cruel actions always cause a cruel and bleak outcome for their victim. We see examples of this in the very first scene, when they discuss how they tortured a sailor by depriving him of sleep and tossing his ship into a tempestuous storm. They enjoy barbaric acts like severing a man’s thumb and keeping it as a trophy. In my opinion it’s very meaningful that the witches are the first people we met, the set the tone of the play. The significance of this is huge; it shows the prevalence of the theme of evil. Early on, we realise that the witches have a great deal of power over events and propensity to convince a malleable mind. Their goal is not to help Macbeth gain all the glory and power which it is his ambition to achieve but to convince him that this is their aim but rather lead him to his death! They receive satisfaction in the false sense of security and hope their prophecies have given Macbeth. I think the witches have set their sights on misleading Macbeth the whole way until his death, they pray on his sense of ambition and use this to start the fire which engulfs all and ends with Macbeth’s death. Lady Macbeth has another important role in this play, to expand on the theme of evil and carry it further through the play. I think she, like the witches enjoys in the pursuit of evil just for the sake of it. She taunts and blackmails her husband into committing unthinkable crimes for the sake of it. Lady Macbeth is an appalling woman, from the moment we met her we see her just ready to empty her wickedness upon any poor sucker that comes along, unlucky for Macbeth he happens to be her victim. She is a like a spider she catches him in her web and wraps him up and engrosses him in all her evil. Her true essence comes into play when she calls upon the evil spirits to take away her femininity, to take away her weaknesses and pity, â€Å"come, you spirits, that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty†. When Macbeth refuses to be part of the act, he decides to not kill Duncan, this infuriates Lady Macbeth. She begins to try and guilt Macbeth into committing the crime. She uses violent bloody imagery to guilt him into doing it. She is very manipulative; this shows us how ruthless Lady Macbeth is. Macbeth ends up changing his mind. While the three witches and Lady Macbeth are seen as the main forms of evil in the play, we must not overlook Macbeth himself. We cannot tell if he is truly an evil human being or if he just carries out evil acts. After all, he is the one who carries out Duncan’s brutal murder. He is the one who ordered for the killing of Banquo and Fleance (who escapes). He is the one who employs three murders to kill Macduffs wife and kids. Is this because he is evil? Or is it because of the push Lady Macbeth gave him which led him to spiral out of control and with the confidence he received from the witches. The brutal slaughter of Duncan was his first step into the bloodbath from which he finds impossible to return from. The violent bloody imagery used throughout the play also portrays a sense of evil. The evil in the play is presented very well through pathetic fallacy. In most occasions in the play, when a murder was committed or when we came upon the witches, the weather would reflect the actions or the tension in the play. Also, how the animals reacted after Duncan’s death, they all went wild and ate each other. I think this draws a very good image, and links everything in with the particular act. These unnatural acts mirror the evil in reality. In my opinion this overall intensifies the play and makes you become engrossed in the play. Overall, Shakespeare’s Macbeth, is full of images of evil, cruelty, suffering and death. It is images like the amputated thumb, the horses eating each other of the brutality of the murders. There are also many references to the devil, hell and violence. The characters, their actions and moods all combine to make a very powerful vision of evil within the play. While we see that evil does not go unpunished, the final victory does not look like much compared to the amount of evil which has been seen through this play, the amount of lives lost and how it has affected the people left behind, even though law and order is finally restored. It is prevalent that the main theme in this play is the theme of evil.

Based on her own experiences growing up with three sisters, the novel is Alcotts best-known works  and presents many of her personal viewpoints. This novel is something of a conundrum for feminist scholars because while it portrays a strong female heroine (Jo March, an analog for Alcott herself), the ideals of hard work and sacrifice and the ultimate goal of marriage seem to stymie true individual rebellion from any of the March sisters.   Here are  a few of the quotes that show the contradictions in the themes of independence and feminism in Little Women.   March Familys Money Problems Christmas wont be Christmas without any presents.
